in our last ca it was said from the platform that the gb has said we shouldn't buy food that is only produced at certain times of the year.
although not specified i imagine they meant turkeys, christmas puddings, easter eggs, hot cross buns etc.
the reasoning that it's attached specifically to pagan festivals.
Perhaps they will issue a few WT magazines that detail which 'food factions' can be eaten and when.

For instance - candy canes are out, but if they have been heated and melted into pure sugar, then they could be consumed provided that no one's conscience is offended.

i often hear this phrase "i respect a person's beliefs" on here and elsewhere, but i feel strongly that you should not.. i know that sometimes people mean by that phrase that they respect the right of a person to hold silly beliefs if they want to, but if that is so, say so.. if a person's beliefs are unsupportable, perhaps looney, perhaps downright dangerous,murderous, like the jw blood doctrine, such beliefs deserve no respect at all.. the person holding them we can show respect to by telling them in a gentle, and polite way that their beliefs are a pile of steaming poo, but we should not show respect for the beliefs, even by the simple act of remaining silent.. "to tell the truth as you see it is a wonderful thing" john lydon ("johnny rotten" late of the sex pistols, and now p. i. ltd).
Those of us with the guts it takes to stand up and call bullshit often are hit with the charge that we don't respect others' beliefs.
That is true - I don't respect beliefs built on insane ideology, and my outward nature causes me to say so.
Still - I will never be classed among those who just ignore ignorance.

i'm sliding towards atheism but i'm not completely sure either way.. the more reading i do of things of a scientific nature, the more i edge towards no god, but i like to analyse both sides of an idea.. anyway, whenever i read anything on kings website, it just seems he is a bit of doomsday cultist himself, i mean he has all these links to conspiracy sites, and all manner of negative scary articles about nuclear war and famine etc.

i just want to be a true christian..i love god and jesus christ....all i simply want is to be a follower of christ...a genuine one...i don't want to read matthew 23 and know that it aptly fits my situation...i want to feel refreshed under the love of my father...i don't want to fake anymore...i shouldn't even have felt the need to anyway.... i don't know what to do....i'm tired and all i want to do is serve the almighty god...i don't want to have doubts because that alone makes me know that this isn't what god wants...i just want to truthfully be a follower of jesus...a true one.

It's only been a few weeks since we first saw you post here.
I think it might be VERY early to know what you want to do with the rest of the life given you. You do and can know what you don't want to do - but take the next few steps very carefully, slowly. YOU will be more surprised than anyone here or anywhere else as to the direction you will EVENTUALLY take - but it will take more than weeks or a few months to know for sure where you are headed.
Don't let the emotions of the moment move you right back into another dead end road in life. Life is too short.

I have attended an assembly there, several years ago [about 20 I think], in fact on the occasion of my brother's baptism. It used to be a church, and parking is a problem there. I thought it refreshing due to it's 'non-cookie cutter' style.
All this real estate sales looks like the organization is in deep shit to me - but I haven't looked at the numbers lately, just can't be bothered to be honest. I hope it is the beginning of the end for them, though I wonder what discomfort is being forced upon the local 'brothers', as they are the ones who are really affected by such changes. Hopefully some of them will see the ship sinking and get off.

I would have once stated that the ability to decieve so completely must be the mark of a 'cult'. Nowadays I would more likely just state that ALL religion is delusion, some are just more focused on delusional beliefs than others.
I find it extremely curious, as regards Jehovahs Witnesses, that in only two years we hit 100 years since Jesus took that throne. Yet, this will probably not be even a minor panic for them - they know that the sheeple are blind and ignorant to such things.
It's no different in the other churches though who have been preaching rapture, end of times, or other doctrine for a lot longer. If only they would all take up the Shaker doctrines - now THAT would help reduce the ignorance over just one generation, wouldn't it?

You have made the honest plea of a friend. I hope enough - but not too much - comment is made to make her think a little. Time is the great enemy of the religion - and information will drift in over time that might change her mind.
I agree that the bigger issue is that her son will likely be influenced to join no matter what his mother eventully does - this is what happened to me. My mother was a lifetime 'study' - eventually a very inactive/non-attending jw. I 'bought the whole package' from about the age of 5 or 6 [the age that most experts believe us most receptive to such things], and it took me until the age of 48 to break the bonds with that cult.
As an atheist, I find all religion to be a waste of time and life, so this influences my opinion that the boy is not better/worse off within one or another [there are to some degree, cults that are more serious than others of course]. I view it all as dangerous and hope the boy is not sucked into any of it - but likely he will. In that regard I wish them both well in the end - but have no illusion that the adventure within will be short lived.
